The Galbraith Family

A Wright Park Family Session

I’ve had the pleasure of knowing the Galbraith family ever since Rachel was the maid of honor in the very first wedding I ever photographed. She, and her wonderful husband are the kind of genuine, warm, compassionate people that you can’t help but like. They are gentle souls… and as their family grew with two boys and a gorgeous little girl I ‘ve had the pleasure of seeing them once or twice a year to capture their family photos.

This year we met at Wright Park in Tacoma with their extended family, including Micah’s twin brother! While photographing the family I found out that Micha’s dad - the Senior Mr. Galbraith was the actor who played the original Aqua Velva Man! How amazing is that? I just think that’s so cool!

It was a great time getting to know Micha’s twin brother, and all of his sisters, their spouses and kids. This is one full, charismatic group - you just have to smile when you’re with them!

The fall color at Wright Park in October can’t be beat… it’s really gorgeous, and the mature trees and surrounding architecture make this one of my favorite locations to photograph families. There’s room to roam, and you can take advantage of the gorgeous conservatory as well as a charming metal gazebo, and a small pond area.

Fun & Fabulous Date Night Ideas

As your wedding approaches it’s easy to get caught up not only in the details of wedding preparation, but also in your ever expanding budget.  At Wink Wedding Co we are all about having fun - isn’t that what life is all about? We also believe in the importance of date night!

It’s extremely important to continue to date your love - not just before the wedding, but during the planning stages, and well into the long years of your marriage.  Date nights should have rules. Which rules? Well that’s up to you - but here are a few suggestions:

  1. Don’t discuss wedding planning (or the kids, or money trouble…. Basically this isn’t a couple’s therapy session, it’s a date.  It’s fun, sexy, romantic time. Not “let’s discuss why I hate your Aunt Edna and can’t sit her next to my Uncle Bob at the wedding.” That’s not fun - necessary perhaps, but better left for another time.

  2. Take turns planning date nights.  Spontaneity is really hard when you’re working and planning something as big as a wedding.  Especially if there are kids in your home and you need to arrange for their care. But it helps to share the burden and trade back and forth when planning dates.  Plus, many of us like a little surprise in life - it’s nice to just go out and enjoy an evening without being the one who made the calls, bought the tickets, packed the snacks, or arranged the child care.

  3. Mix it up - don’t get stuck in a rut by taking the easy way out and going to the same old bar, or same bowling alley, or same restaurant each time.  Variety, as they say, is the spice of life.

With that in mind, here are a few of my favorite date night ideas.  Some take a bit of planning, some can be done spur of the moment. These locations are local to me in Tacoma Washington - but these ideas can be used anywhere.

Date Night Idea List:

Teatro ZinZanni is part circus, part cabaret, and dinner with flair. You can’t help but smile during this dinner show. The immensely talented cast are a total delight, and the meal is always top notch. This is a chance to dress up and hit the town. Teatro ZinZannie is totally unique, sexy, fun, and funny! Find our more info online at https://zinzanni.com/seattle/

Dorkey’s Arcade is located on Pacific Ave in Tacoma (psst… it’s one block from my studio!) This great hangout offers pizza, beer, and snack foods to enjoy while you toss quarters into old school - and next gen - arcade games.  There’s also pinball and air hockey. So let your competitive side out and maybe place a sexy bet or two on who will be the ultimate champion on your next round of Pin Ball or Street Fighter.

Wellspring Spa is located in gorgeous Alder Washington, on the edges of the National Forest entrance to Mount Rainier.  This gorgeous get away takes some planning - but it’s totally worth is. You can rent intimate bungalows, cabins, yurts… even a two person tree house to sleep in the stars.  Amenities include a hot tub nestled in the woods… and best of all - there’s no cell service in this area. You can spend 24 hours connecting, and canoodling with no interruptions from the outside world.

A sunset picnic in Kerry Park.  Kerry Park is one of those well loved Seattle locations.  You get amazing views of the Seattle skyline. Pack up a picnic, grab a blanket (or two if you want to spend some time snuggling under the stars) and spend an evening really connecting with each other.  Talk about your future, talk about your honeymoon - just talk. This low cost date night is perfect for those long, warm summer nights.

Hit up the Kent Valley Ice Center, located in Kent Washington, or Sprinker Ice Arena in Spanaway Washington. These easy to get to arenas are a fantastic date night.  Even if you’ve never gone ice skating before, it’s fun and often hilarious to try it together.  The Ice Center in Kent offers other enjoyments at well, such as mini - golf and a cafe for snacking. I’m sure you’ll be able to think of a way to warm yourselves up when you’re done on the ice!

Can Can Cabaret, Pike Place Market, Seattle Washington.  Talk about a sexy date night. The Can Can is an intimate theater showcasing burlesque dancers.  Themed, seasonal offerings are always changing - but the one thing that doesn’t change is the stunning meal and drink options - which are only outclassed by the funny, sexy MC Johnny Boy and the crazy talented, and gorgeous, troup of burlesque dancers.  Hit up an evening showing with your lover and prepare for a very fun, very funny, and very sexy date night. Tickets purchased here: http://www.thecancan.com/

For the adventure seekers I think a fantastic date night should include a visit to iFly Indoor Sky Diving. Get your hearts racing (other than for each other!) and share a little adrenaline rush before you say “I do”. You can find multiple locations nation wide on their website at https://www.iflyworld.com/

Are you an animal lover? Why not plan a day at Point Defiance Park and Zoo. Wander the rose garden, picnic by Olsen Beach, and take in the exhibits at the best zoo and aquarium in the south sound area. You can spend an entire day together hiking the trails along the five mile loop, exploring the Nisqually Fort, and Kayaking at Olsen Beach. Dinner is just a short drive away on Ruston Way - Seafood, Steak, Burgers or Italian, anything you could want. And after dinner - maybe an oceanfront, moonlit walk along Ruston Way is the perfect way to end your awesome day together.

I just love the Rat City Roller Derby.  Key Arena in Seattle Washington is the place to be if you want to take in a kick ass night of roller derby.  Not sure what roller derby is? It’s a blend of roller skating and female wrestling - hot chicks with tattoos and epic blocking moves… It’s pretty awesome!  Check out their link here: http://ratcityrollergirls.com/ and get your tickets.  Plan on a casual, exciting, sexy night of rowdy girls and loud spectators.  Then maybe pick up a burger at Dicks and head home.
