K & K

A Family Session on Bud Blanchard Trail

Kara and her daughter along with Kara’s roommate Keith and his adorable son met me at the head of the Bud Blanchard Trail, by the new - and gorgeous - bridge for a quick spring mini sessions.

They did a great job - and I love how their photos turned out. The kids gave up some amazing smiles, and I like how the boys wore matching railroad shirts! Too darn cute!

Dillon Turns 9!

Dillio’s momma was one of the amazing individuals who cared for my little man, Rex, when he went to daycare. She’s funny, warm, sweet, and hardworking. She reached out to me to photograph Dil in celebration of his 9th birthday.

She wanted to keep it simple and classic, and keep the focus on her little man. He’ll only be single digits for one last year! We used the awesome brick walls in my Tacoma studio. And we did a second set using a great neutral backdrop.

Dillon loves my jumbo fuzzy carpet - I think I know exactly what he needs for his 10th birthday next year!

The Bjelland Family

A Snowy Mount Rainier Family Session

Shannon and her husband Jordan run the cutest little Christmas tree farm called Oh My Back Acres, located in Graham Washington. Several years ago I reached out and asked if they would be okay if I booked a set of holiday sessions at their farm. They said yes, and a beautiful friendship was born.

Over the years I’ve photographed their awesome kiddo’s birthday sessions, as well as family photos. This year we patiently waited…and waited… and rescheduled… and FINALLY we got a bit of the magical fluffy snow we were hoping for.

We drove up to Longmire, in the Mt. Rainier National Forest. Due to the government shutdown we couldn’t get any farther, but it still worked out perfectly. Colton is such a great big brother - and I just love the photos of the boys together.

Teddy

A 6 Month Sitter Session

Oh my goodness Teddy is a dream to photograph. He’s happy, and smiles all the time! I met his beautiful momma when I photographed her wedding years ago - we share the same name, so we instantly had something to bond over I’ve come to love this whole little family as I’ve photographed them over the years.

Today Teddy came in for a six month “sitter session” as a milestone session. I just love being able to catch up with my littlest clients while they grow and change. We gave Teddy’s session a little bit of a Valentine’s feel, and used lots of Aqua, since his little bow tie matched so perfectly.

When I first opened my Tacoma Studio I wasn’t really sure how often I would use it. I had no idea how much it would change my shooting style, my client’s experience, and my business as a whole. I can offer so many different kinds of sessions, and prop options. It’s just so much fun to have a space of my own that my clients can come and enjoy. I feel so creative in this space.

Even though we kept it pretty simple for this session i just love how it turned out. Before leaving I made sure to take a few portraits of Teddy with his Mom and Auntie!

Twyla and Tiffany have been besties since childhood, and it super special that we could get a few photos of the two of them with Baby Teddy

The Markline Family

A Winter Family Session at Point Defiance Park

If I’ve said it once, I’ll say it a couple thousand more times….and typically loudly…what can I say?! I just LOVE it when my friends, family, and former clients refer me to other families who are looking for professional portraits. When they trust me enough to refer me to friends it' means something. I appreciate that trust, more than you know!

When someone is so in love with their wedding portraits that they want others to experience that joy it makes all the long hours and time and money spent in classes and practice - all the failed attempts that eventually lead to successes, everything…it’s all worth it!

Machiko and her family met me for a fast, fun little session at Point Defiance Park in Tacoma. Our weather this January has been beyond phenomenal. We even broke a record I think with a 60 degree day…when does that happen here in the Rainy State? Never I tell ya, never!

We couldn’t have asked for a better day. The kids were shy at first, as kids tend to be, but they warmed up quickly to the camera and we got some really wonderful, candid and posed photographs. Point Defiance Park is everything you could want for a session. There are ponds, blossoming trees, bridges, wildlife, greenery, a rose garden. It’s the perfect location for a family session.

Skylar, Jordan and Anthony

A Retro Tacoma Family Session

I just love these amazing humans! Jordan, her boyfriend Anthony, and Jordan’s crazy, sassy little girl Skylar are pretty awesome! They agreed to come play in Tacoma so I could take some updated family photos. We went for a cool toned, retro look since we used a fantastic little alley I found full of graffiti - something a little different than your typical pretty park location.

Not that I don’t love pretty park locations, but mixing it up is rather awesome if I do say so myself.

Since we chose a colorful urban location we kept Anthony, Jordan, and Skylar simply dressed in black and denim. It’s a timeless look that was perfect for this graffiti strewn city alleyway. We went for a casual, non posed lifestyle session. These sessions are typically more fun, and less stressful for families with small children. We all know that getting a toddler to stand still, smile, look at the camera, and not be a wiggly bundle of energy can be frustrating and sometimes just plain old impossible…. I’m all for capturing your little one’s unique personality in a playful, casual manner instead of a stiff formal one.

Skylars giant dimples never fail to make an appearance when she’s got that big happy smile rockin’. I’m so happy with how this family session turned out.

Jessie & Myles

A Quintessential Country Wedding

As soon as I met with Jessie and her then fiance’ Myles I felt like we clicked.  This is a couple who is both fun and charming, and so obviously in love - she is the peanut butter to his jelly.  Their sweet, summer wedding took place at Grimstad Farms in Kent Washington. On a hot perfect July day we gathered early to photograph all of the preparations that went into their big day. This venue is just so beautiful.  The owners obviously take pride in their property, and were available the whole time to lend a hand if needed. One of my favorite parts of this venue is the Bride’s getting ready room. Converted from an old silo it’s decorated with lovely antique pieces and is full of light and feminine details.

Jessie was such a gorgeous bride - she truly has a smile that lights up the room, and full genuine laugh that makes you want to join in on the joke. Her dress was perfection. The strapless style flattering her figure and the gorgeous details in the full layered skirt just adding to her fairytale princess appearance.

Myles and his Groomsmen stoically dealt with the heat of the day, and looked more than dashing in their chocolate and tan vested suits. Opting for long ties in a complementary neutral tone the whole wedding party looked so posh and well put together.

I really love the colors that Jessie and Myles chose for their bridal party and decor.  The hints of gold throughout the neutral, creamy pallet really gave the whole affair a touch of timeless elegance.

Together with their family and friends the ceremony took place beside the sunny pond on the Grimstad Farm property. While the reception was in the cooler, well decorated barn. The dinner was catered by Olive Garden, and their wedding cake was both pretty and delicious!  As an aficionado of wedding cake, I can confidently say that it was one of my favorites!

As the night started cooling off and the dancing began we all got to see how carefree and playful Jessie and Myles are together. From their very first dance as husband and wife, to their final cha-cha in the conga line this couple thoroughly enjoyed their guests and their reception. Everyone was on their feet dancing and celebrating together as the moon started to rise and the happy couple was whisked away to their hotel to prep for their Hawaiian Honeymoon!

Katie, Tom & Baby Ellie

A Yelm Washington Maternity Session

Katie and Tom are the cutest…seriously… don’t try to argue. They are just the most in love, sweet, fun couple you could hope to meet. After meeting up and being hired to shoot their amazing wedding at North West Trek last year I was overjoyed (seriously, there was squealing like a kid on Christmas morning) when they told me they were going to have a baby!

Fast forward a couple months - and here we are! A new house, two busy pups and getting ready to meet baby Ellie soon! Nothing like a few major life changes at once right? I’ll be shooting Katie’s Fresh 48 in the hospital as well as a traditional newborn session in my Tacoma studio once this sweet girl is Earth side! Katie was a glowing, gorgeous bride for her Autumn Wedding…and she’s just as pretty in the full bloom of pregnancy - check out that hair! Ohh laa laa!

We got together at Cochran Memorial Park in Yelm - a sweet little gem hidden in this rural residential community. It boasts a great pond, some trails, and lots of various plants and trees - so it’s a great spot year round for photos. It was definitely chilly, being January in Washington - but we got so lucky with a beautiful dry, and sunny late afternoon.

I am so beyond excited to meet this sweet girl in another few weeks! The countdown is on!

The Manley Family

An Eatonville Family Session

I am blessed to be able to call this wonderful family my neighbor as well as my friend. Our youngest daughters are cohorts and slumber party buddies. When I found out that they hadn’t had family photos in years I knew if was high time we got together in town for a fun mini session!

The Manley Family decided to keep it casual and true to who they are with cozy flannels and jeans. While it’s fun to dress up now and then, I think it’s incredibly important to be authentic to who you are as a family when choosing your wardrobe for your photo session.

I knew just the right location for their session. We stayed close to home and headed to one of my favorite little parks in Eatonville. Smallwood boasts a sweet little kid’s fishing pond, a simple bridge, walking trails, and open fields. It’s a great spot for a family photography session. As the sun started to set we caught some of last rays of Autumn light before winter truly hit us here in the Pacific Northwest.

As I’ve said before, I love the in between moments during a family photography session. The jokes and laughter, the genuine smiles and hugs. I think those images say so much about who you are as a family. We got a nice mix of posed and unposed images for this fun family session.
